Week of July 3, 2006

Our plan is to provide all of you with video footage and/or pictures in the near future (maybe after the big race day when things slow down a bit). There isn’t a great deal of change to report in her condition. Her muscles and level of control of those muscles has improved. We are hoping to get a better read on her level of cognition over the days and weeks ahead. By cognition, meaning essentially the mind-muscle connection. Are messages being sent from the brain to the body? Is the body receiving those messages? Are her movements solely random and reflexive in nature or is there intent and purpose? We desperately want answers, but patiently still wait. May God grant us the ability to recognize when those answers come and the courage to accept and sustain the period void of such answers.

Laura’s 5K run/walk is less than five days away. Updated registered participants: 670! This means we have increased over 170 people in the past four days. Speaking for the committee, all of us are astonished by this level of interest and support. Why don’t we just go ahead and hit the 1,000 mark? For a heads up, several messages will be sent out over the next few days making you aware of registration times for packet and t-shirt pickup, as well as, discussing final issues before the event. Please, be patient with us over these next several days. With your help, this will take a day otherwise filled with darkness for our family and shed much needed light.

Throughout this process and over the past year, much has taken place. All the events have come together and descended upon one theme, the life of Laura Laughlin and her passionate belief in sharing God’s Word with others. Interestingly enough, when light is shown upon you, it can do one of two things. Light can expose you or it can radiate you magnificently for all to see. What we are doing with Laura is truly this simple. We chose to allow God’s light to shine through Laura for all to see. Selfishly withholding Laura and this life purpose and mission is not an option. Laura will be used for God’s workmanship, which is her spoken dream. Please, God, continue to shine your light and radiate Laura (her character, her spirit, and her passion for you), for there must still be work to be done!

WOULD ANYONE LIGHT A LAMP AND THEN PUT IT UNDER A BASKET OR UNDER A BED? OF COURSE NOT! A LAMP IS PLACED ON A STAND, WHERE ITS LIGHT WILL SHINE. (Mark 4:21)

We love you,
Jeff and Laura Laughlin
